Who else is recruiting this fall?

I haven’t participated in recruiting before and am starting to get a little wigged out. Common pitfalls? Tips, tricks? I’ve been on successful interviews in the past and have a resume that seems to get me interviews.

I’m finding it tiring and all consuming. My studies have taken a back seat because it seems like I am constantly going to networking functions, submitting resumes, writing cover letters. I spent Saturday shopping for clothes because I realized I’ve gained a little weight over the past year (thank you REG & FAR)

    Anyone else want to commiserate?

Are you working now? I have not gone through recruiting. But I did the job hunt thing while fully employed and working OT. I also gained weight from 2 tax seasons. I bought a skirt suit because a co-worker suggested it would help look less intimidating as a female, HATE skirt suits, but it worked it's magic and I got another job. Not sure if it was the suit, but thought I'd share with you anyways. Good luck … I hated that stuff. I feel for ya.

@littlenumberrobot I'm working at a small firm now but am ready to move on. I want to gain different experience. It's kind of awkward because I'm doing it on the quiet and firms are asking why I am leaving my current job.

My university lets alumni go to firm events with the students. So I'm working, going to events and studying.

I can't handle blazers, they look stupid on me. (I'm petite so it looks like I'm wearing someone else's grown up clothes.) I got some slacks, a skirt, blouses and some classy/dressy cardigans.

I understand. I left my first firm after only a year and a half. That is a good, I never thought to check with my university to see if they had alumi events.

I HATE tucking in my shirt. haha I feel so exposed

Just be yourself…be confident and intelligent, but remain personable. No one likes a snore. If that doesn't work, you could always pop open a few of your top buttons and hope for the best! I'm here to help! 🙂

Thank you? .. . . gosh the advice on this forum is priceless 😛 At least its good for a laugh.

I am going to another firm networking event tonight. I'll try (not) to remember your advice. Do you think it would impress them to say something like, “although I love talking with you about firm culture and eating your marginal catered snacks, I would rather be at home studying for the CPA exam” ?
