This is part me being excited and partly motivation for people that don’t think they have enough accounting experience to get hired into public accounting. I received an offer from BDO this week for their only full-time audit position for 2017 in a large city with considerably less experience than other 9 candidates. I was the only interviewee that went to a non-SEC school and was also the only interviewee that decided not to pursue a MACC. On top of that, I have never had an accounting internship or job. This goes to show that they do take into consideration other experiences and attributes.

Side note: I was able to find out from some inside sources that none of the Big 4 in my city were hiring full time auditors for the 2017 cycle. I thought that was very odd and have no idea why that is the case.

Do you have bachelors in acct? I assume you are CPA? What is non-sec school?

I have a bachelors in accounting and Finance, and an MBA with a concentration in Data Analytics. I have passed one section of the CPA exam so far. SEC schools are Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, etc. The SEC is their sports conference.

Thanks for the info and congrats on getting job. You do have an attractive background. I was considering to pursue MACC at one point but don't see any benefit since I already have master's in Business Admin. I have passed all CPA exams.

I feel like it is rare to even get an opportunity to interview though without prior public accounting experience or any connections to these firms.

How long have you been out of school?

I have almost 2 years of accounting (not public) experience, CPA, and a MS degree but still can't get any interview opportunities with any of the midsz – large accounting firms.

Not sure what is going on since I seen people who just copied and pasted their old job descriptions and get an interview.

I just graduated this past May with my MBA. I also have 2 years experience in financial consulting, so non public accounting experience.
