    Hello,

I haven’t really posted much on this forum, but now I’m in need of some serious advice. I won’t bore you with a lot of details, so the short version is that I received an offer letter to work for a public accounting firm in another state. This job has many benefits, some if which are that I don’t have to relocate, so I can pretty much work remotely with some occasional travel to the main office location. Another huge benefit is that the salary is excellent. However, one of the downsides is that I would have to travel frequently to the Middle East to a highly hazardous location, and although I was assured that security would be provide, this still makes me very nervous. Other than this last detail, this is pretty much my dream job. I have been trying to get into public accounting for years now, so this is my opportunity.

What would you do? Anybody been in a similar situation or know of anybody in a similar situation. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. When I talk to family and friends about this, they usually just make me doubt myself.

Would you have to audit Al Qaeda's financial statements somewhere in Afgani village in the mountains?

If not, I thing you should be fine.

    AUD - 86 Apr 2014
    BEC - 77 Aug 2014

I'd ask them what happened to the last guy that had the job. If he's still alive and not being held at gunpoint in a hut somewhere, I'd go for it. Of course, this is dependent on whether or not you would be asked to prepare financial statements for terrorists. If that's the case, then, um, yeah, NO!

Some great advice… I agree, that it sounds like an interesting opportunity that at the least you may want to try to get some 1st hand perspective on.

I love to vacation in Mexico, drug cartel violence everywhere according to the news. I've never seen or experienced any issues. On the other hand we had an audit client in Oakland and one day I literally RAN into the building to get away from this creepy man who was running after me. No hazard pay either!

My point is things get overblown, there are areas everywhere that aren't very safe if you are properly prepared and follow safety guidelines the risks most likely aren't any worse.

    FAR - 7/13 - 72, 11/13- 74, 2/14- 82!!! Best score ever (for me)!!!
BEC - 1/14 - 75!!! Perfect score! First Pass! YAY!!!
    AUD - 8/14 - 80!!!
    REG - 5/14 - 72, 10/14 - 66, 1/15 - 78 - DONE FOREVER!!!
I did 5 of the UNA and CPAExcel classes to earn units.
