    Anybody have to use this type of assessment as part of their hiring process? I’m going through the interview process for an Accounting Manager position. This is a first for me. I’m curious if any others have had to go through this or a similar type of experience. I’ll admit that I am just a tad bit nervous about it because I have no clue what to expect. I got hit with a few curveballs during my interview – How did the FASB come to be? Deer in the headlights for me. Thank god I remembered enough from college to have a respectable answer.

    FAR 10/14 - PASS
    AUD 1/15 - PASS
    REG 4/15 - PASS

    Hey I don't know if you have taken the test already but I took the “prove it” test about a month ago My test took about 4 hours because I had 12 exams to do for the accounting position I applied for (Staff Accountant) but they consisted of Excel, Word, Outlook, Math, Grammar, Data Typing Speed, WPM Speed, and some English tests like spelling. They are all timed and graded on a proficiency level from 0-100%. For the Excel, Word, and Outlook tests, you have to click the exact function the exact way that they would expect you to NO SHORTCUTS. For example, my Excel test said to insert a table into cell blocks A1 through D12. I highlighted and right clicked on the mouse which was WRONG. The correct way is to click the Insert tab from the ribbons menu etc. That is how all of the Microsoft Office tests are compromised. The Word exam in my opinion was the hardest as I only use a few “special” functions on their. Their test has you do a bunch of extra crap like insert a comment above the footnote that links you to blah blah blah. Do your best and try not to take too long as time counts. I think you get like 30 mins. Also, know the Average, SUM, VLOOKUP, Pivot Table, and Macro functions in Excel if you have to take those tests.

    One day I will face that exam.

    @law, my thoughts exactly. What is the point of getting the license if it doesn't exempt you from ridiculous questions that a high school accounting student would be able to answer? I see it as a prelude to the kind of work I would be doing in the role. If you want someone to prepare and post basic journal entries, then you don't need a CPA, and you aren't likely to pay for a CPA, so you're wasting my time.

    Before I was given an offer at my firm, they told me I needed to take a test because they wanted to make sure I knew the Balance Sheet and the P&L religiously (my job is consulting on the month end close and reporting for different companies across industries). 150 question test including writing out journal entries and some 10-key work. They came back in about a half hour after it started to see if I was done and I freaked out asking for more time. Fortunately, they were okay with that and I ended up doing well enough to get hired. That stuff is stressful though!

    I just took an advanced accounting Proveit test for a senior accountant position. The test consists of 46 questions. The questions were difficult. It covered many questions from FAR/AUD/BEC and REG. I scored a 74. Lucky, it wasn't the CPA exam, otherwise I have failed LOL. The exam was much harder than I expected. Originally, i thought it would be easy accounting 101 questions. Below are the question type for the test

    Account Payable 6

    Account Receivable 5 (Percentage of Sale Methods)

    Auditing 9

    Cost Accounting 5

    Financial Analysis 7 (FIFO/LIFO Inventory, Types of depreciation, Different Ratios)

    General Ledger 9

    Payroll 5 (Payroll tax, pension,)

    Total = 46 Questions.
