Sure, it might take a while and long hours to get there…but what if you were offered the opportunity? Would you be up to the task or would you think it is too demanding/not worth it for whatever reason?

What are the pros vs. cons of becoming a Partner in your opinion?

Let me just sum up this thread, how it will go. People will tell you their opinions and you will disagree. Then some people will say you shouldn't be an ahole. You will say they are derailing the thread. I mean I dont think anyone even needs to comment I've summed it up for everyone already.

Lol you're right pretty much. Not the best place for career-related feedback. Luckily I found a few good links and articles on the topic on Going Concern and a few other sites.

I think it depends on your long term priorities. For me, family and balance are the priority. So while I want to have a successful career, having quality time to enjoy with my family is even more important. That's what I decided to forego public accounting altogether and just start out in industry. I found a mid-sized private company that pays well and treats employees over-the-top well. I LOVE it and don't regret one bit not even pursuing Big 4. Even if I made $1M+ in a career, it would never be worth the sacrifice of my time or my family.

Honest question – if you were on your deathbed, are you more likely to look back on your life and wish you had invested more in a career for status, prestige, and money; or are you more likely to to wish you had spent more time investing in relationships, building memories, and doing things for others?

Only you can decide what's more important in the long run!

I am working in one of a Big 4 and work load is overwhelmed. I mean if you are really good at work life balance, then you wont have a problem during time staying at the firm. As for me, I am thinking of step out of Big 4. That way I will spend more time with my family and get to do a side job so I dont have to depend on my salary only. And I dont think my goal is to become a Partner anyway. Some people are made for it, and some people are not. I see many people who I sat next to during my internship have already left the firm after 3 years. There was 35 of us in assurance, and probably only 7 of us now. To get to Partner at big 4, you just have to go through a lot, and so you have to think “is that worth it?” “is this for me?”
