Private to Public

I’ve been in private accounting for about 2 years now at a small company < 12 people. I got the job straight out of college with no “real life” accounting experience. I like the people I work with however, the only problem I really have is that there seems to be no guidance. For the most part I do bookkeeping there and when I go through the GL I see that our outside accountant does a lot of AJE for either incorrect categorization and all the accruals. Therefor I feel like I don’t gain too much real life experience since no one is there to tell me what I’m doing wrong and I can’t correct any mistakes because I don’t know if I’m even making them for the most part.

Am I thinking this the wrong way? I got an offer as an intern for tax in a local public firm, will I at least learn what’s right and wrong, or does this usually just get fixed by a supervisor and swept under the rug? It seems like it’s hard to learn anything when you don’t know what you are doing is correct.

    Any advice?
