My story is that I used to work as a tax associate under one of the big 4 accounting firms for 2 years. I found myself (and quite a few co-workers actually!) not passing either because we weren’t able to multi-task or because the work literally took up 100% of our time (my friend from a different office worked 24 hours a day…literally). After realizing I couldn’t go through life without a CPA behind my name, and with support from family, I left my job to focus on the exam, and it paid off. I passed my first section in May and hope to be a CPA by the end of the year.
Has anyone out there done this before? And were you able to find your next job post-CPA exam studying? Also, I’m actually considering doing audit for a couple years so I can get experience from both tax and audit and then go private. Are there any public accounting firms that actually would take someone like me into their entry-level position? I’ve been looking online, but firms like McGladrey seem to prefer applicants who are fresh out of college for such a position.
CPA license in progress....
