Plan B – Not working in Accounting

Has anyone ever had a hard time getting an accounting job even after finishing the CPA exams..? If so, I’m probably considering it and looking into something else besides accounting. One includes army or national guard. I see that Fall is when most of the hiring is done, and I don’t think I’m going to wait another year until they hire candidates. After finishing the CPA, I was happy that it was over and excited to start an accounting job for the first time if I got hired. Turns out the opposite. I was getting declined interviews left and right.

Sorry everyone, just venting and thinking hard on what to do now. =)

Can1 – What type of positions are you applying for? If you are having a hard time getting an offer but have had interviews then you probably need to work on your interviewing skills. The CPA can be a double edge sword. When you have a CPA and you are applying for lower positions, if your direct supervisor does not have one, a lot of times a candidate will get passed over for fear of the person leap frogging the supervisor.

@ UCMCPA – Sorry. I should have made it more clear.

@BaxterCPA – I applied public accounting, industry and governmental. I applied to a lot of places, but got turned down before an interview. My second option is joining the military and looking into law enforcement. I know people will say all the work I put into finishing the CPA will be for nothing then. They are right, but I like to think about the future and not dwell on the past. =)

@Never_Giver_Up1 – I got turned down before being offered an interview. Even during my college years I wasn't offered any internships. I thought may be there was something wrong with my resume, so I had it redone with a career counselor. In the end, nope. But it's understandable though. Not everyone will get an offer. It's very competitive.

Just trying to help out… asking questions to see if I can offer directions where you can go. But if you don't answer the questions and just reply with, “I have tried, and not everyone gets an offer.” Then it is hard to have someone help you out. From my experience I have learned the more people involved the better. Different people have different perspectives on life and how to achieve things. How bad do you want it? You going to just roll over? And this so called “career counselor” is the only person that can help you out? I will link my personal story to becoming a CPA. It all comes down to how bad do you want it. And from your replies it sounds like you don't want it that bad.
