I really love traveling, and i’ve been really down, because i don’t have the free time i’ve wanted after college.I understand i’m young, and I need to work hard but I feel like aside from the CPA exam it won’t pay off how I want primarily because my current job is so limiting. My plan is to pass the CPA exam before May of next year, and start a new job in Chicago or Cincinnati by September.

Has anyone done something similar before? It’s a big risk, but i think it’s better to try it now while i’m still young.

I'd say travel whenever you have the opportunity to and do it while you're young. It's not gonna be any easier on as you get older and then you're gonna feel as if you missed out on the opportunity. Its hard to say when the “perfect time” is because there never really is one. Last year after graduating from college, I took a two week solo trip to Europe and it was the best thing I've ever done. After that experience, I've decided that I want to go somewhere new at least once a year whenever it is that I can. And the way I see it, when it comes to anything in life, if you want to make something happen you will find a way to make a happen. Also read this https://convergemagazine.com/travel-young-5278/

I'm in same boat. I haven't taken a vacation in roughly 6 years mainly due to school, internships, summer jobs in accounting, CPA studying; all to further my career and develop experience. So I've decided, as soon as all 4 parts are passed; I'm going on vacation. I don't think I'll do 3 months; but def doing a month. Can't wait. lol

Hey guys, thanks for the reply. @cool_kid that was my goal for this year but how rigid my boss was with me trying to take off 2 weeks, really upset me. The time frame was so limited and would have made my trip even more expensive, which upset me more because it's not like they pay me enough. I'll def check out the article you linked

@005 the only reason i'd be able to take an extended vacay is because i plan on quitting my job once i get certified, and i'm hoping that in between jobs period will work in my benefit. I've been working non stop for 5-6 years too, i've never taken a summer off in college, always was enrolled full time. I don't wanna do all this hard work and not even be able to take a real vacay with the potential pay increase

Go for it! I went to Australia as part of my MBA program and it was wonderful! I love new places and now it is difficult because of work and kids, but I am saving money for a 3-4 week European vacation once my youngest is old enough to really enjoy and remember the trip. Do it if you can!
