    Hi,

Last month I completed my masters and completed the CPA. I m having a difficult time getting response from any employers. I have applied to a dozen jobs. I have done 2 internships (small accounting firm and audit intern at midsize firm). I also have 2 years of full charge bookeeper experience at a botique private equity firm. I think I have the credentials and experience. I am just doing something wrong. I really want to start a job by this fall. I am so tired of studying for school and CPA exams. I hope it all pays off. Please provide your insight. Thanks

My experience is that you have to apply to an awful lot of jobs, not just a dozen. When I lost my job in January (I am mid 40's licensed CPA with 20 years accounting experience) I sent out no less than 8 resumes PER DAY. After the first week I averaged 2 interviews per day, and received an offer after 7 weeks. So approx. 280 resumes, 42 interviews yielded 3 job offers.

If you're not getting interviews, have someone you know and trust critique your resume. I got many good resume tips from staffing firms like Robert half even though they were of no use in finding an actual job.

Have a you tried working with a recruiter? That's how I was able to go from public accounting to private. I had the recruiter sign me up for varying positions and companies until I found the right one. This may work for you as well!

    AUD: DONE
    FAR: DONE
    BEC: DONE
    REG: DONE

IM GOING TO BE A CPA!!!!!

When you say you applied, do you mean while you were in school or afterwards?

What kind of positions are you applying to?

    Mayo, BBA, Macc

A resume critique is a great idea. Even something as small as a spelling error can get you eliminated from the applicant pool.

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)

    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)

I second NJPRU…work with a recruiter. Many large companies work primarily with recruiters as they have applicants prescreened and it saves alot of effort for the hiring manager. Plus the recruiter will have jobs that are not posted anywhere and will save you time as well by directing you to jobs you are qualified for.

    FAR - 93 (YAY!!!!)
    REG - 93 (Double YAY!)
    BEC - 87 (Whew!)
    AUD - 96 (DONE!!!!!)

You JUST graduated and passed the CPA exams. Give it some time!

Unless you are incredibly picky or narrow in your search, I almost guarantee that you'll have something lined up in 6 months time.

When you guys say work with a recruiter, where do you find a recruiter to work with? Are you talking about a temp agency like account temps?

2nding up above, you need to be sending out 8 resumes per day!

Your new job post studying is applying for jobs, interviews will come…but volume is what matters.

    REG- (1) 76
    FAR- (2) 64, (5)74, (7)83 (Over achiever!)
    AUD- (3) 70, (4) 75
    BEC- (6) 75
