I have an interview with a partner at a mid-size firm tomorrow. I’m horrible with interviews and get really nervous. I have complied some questions and wanted to get your feedback. Also, any advice for tomorrow would be helpful. I did a Google search about him and know where he went to school and past employers are (not sure if I can work this to my advantage).

    1. Looking back on your carer what would you have done differently?

    2. What are the challenges of your job?

    3. How do balance work/life?

    4. What do you enjoy most about x company?

    5. Where do you see x company in 5 years?

    Thanks 🙂

    1. Looking back on your carer what would you have done differently?

    2. What are the challenges of your job? [fair]

    3. How do balance work/life? [never hint at work/life balance during a public accounting interview]

    4. What do you enjoy most about x company? [this is fair, my loaded question was, when you were in my position and had many firms to choose from, why did you pick Company X and what has kept you here]

    5. Where do you see x company in 5 years? [Bla bla bla, we're growing and stuff, think its a PR question with a PR answer]

Steer clear of the work/life balance question I lost a few interviews in college with that question. 5 questions in my opinion is way too much. Simple questions like mentioned above. Growth of the firm, career projection structure, ask about their path to partner, etc.. Basically, don't ask questions for the sake of filing time.

I have been interviewing trying to make the jump from Big4 to a midsize firm. I had an interview 2 weeks ago and these are the questions I asked the Audit Partner. Before I go to my interview when they send me a list of the people I am going to meet with I always look them up on linkedin to see what their career path has been like and that helps me narrow down the questions I ask.

    1. What has helped you to be successful in your career?

    2. What made you choose XX firm? (If they have given me a background of their career and if I see on linkedin that they have worked at other firms before joining that firm)

3.Are there mentorship opportunities at XX firm?

I asked these questions and he said that these were all very good questions. I am meeting the managing partner next week for coffee and hopefully I get an offer after that.

    BEC - 8/20/2016

    FAR - TBD

I am so ready for this nightmare to be over. Been at this way too long.
