Curiosity question … has anyone out there started their own biz on the side while being employed full time?

I work full time for a large corporation … and since I’m now a CPA, I just registered and created my own business, so I can do some tax work on the side, (on my own time of course – I’ve checked the code of conduct, and it’s permissible.)

Just wondering if anyone has done this, and if so, how it worked out for you. My goal is to monitor my intake of clients so I won’t be over my head … and just “see how it goes” … and re-evaluate everything in a year, 2 or 3 …

    Thoughts?

    A: 83
    R: 78 (expired), 77
    F: 74, 74, 80

    It's finally freaking over.

Does the group have a payroll rep for Paychex or ADP? If so, do you connect with that person? I ask because I give a lot of referral's to my Paychex rep and she does the same for me.

How many current members do they have? If it's over 20, I would suggest joining.

In the past 12 months through my fellow BNI members I have attained $10,000+ in new business. The bulk was bringing on a law firm and a dentist that needed a lot of help. I do not think my results are normal, but $2,000 your first year should be attainable in new business.

I work full time and run my own online beauty supply store +amazon+ebay. Business is started to get slow, partly because I've neglected it to study for exams and competition with the big box stores. I will consider doing tax next year, if I pass REG 😉 i think tax is all about referral and advertise in your local community paper. Each year, I notice tax preparer tend to get more clients. Pricing is another big factor.

I managed to get a few tax clients using Facebook, and I actually got a very small amount of business from business owners from LinkedIn.
