I just came back from a Florida trip and I seriously think about moving there in a few years. I currently live in mid-west. I was born and grew up in tropical climate so I really like Florida!. I have 2.5yrs of experience in industry and 1 yr of experience in public accounting in audit and tax. I’m still working in public accounting which I dont think I want to stay for a long term, so I will eventually make a move in the future. I dont really much about Orlando. My questions are; What are jobs opportunities in Orlando area if I want to do internal audit or accounting analyst with a couple yrs of public accounting experience and CPA? Is it possible? Has anyone worked for Disney’s or Universal?

For a couple who make barely 6 digit and no kids, is it doable to own a small single home in a nice neighborhood?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Zyx,

I have some input. I've lived in Orlando for a large portion of my life, although I've only been working for a little under 3 years. There are many companies here that hire internal audit and accounting analyst roles here. I myself am an accounting analyst at a large public company just outside of Orlando. It has been interesting because I work alongside various parts of accounting in our office such as internal audit, and FP&A. Also, Disney and Universal do have accounting roles down here if you are interested in perusing that. I personally haven't worked for them, but I have friends who do. They seem to enjoy it.

Also, I will say that I don't make nearly that much money, but I live in a small single family home in a nice neighborhood. However, I do live a bit outside of Orlando (about a 40 minute drive to downtown). I would think you'd be able to afford a home down here though.

Per the BLS, wages for CPA in Central Florida are among the lowest anywhere in the country. This is partially offset by the lack of a state income tax in Florida – a discrepancy that will grow larger should the federal deduction for state incomes taxes be eliminated.

Thanks guys for your inputs. I think I need a year and two of audit experience before I move. Ideally, I wanna work for either Disney or Universal to get their benefits (like free admission to the parks). It may sound silly but I think I’d enjoy that benefits for a while.
