I was wondering who has gone through the process of buying into a firm. What were your options, and what steps did you take? I plan on having this discussion with the partner after receiving my license, but want to know what to expect.

    CPA EXAM: DONE!!!!
    Ethics Course: Passed
    Application Mailed: 3/16/15
    Professional Conduct Exam: 97
    Certification Date: 4/2/15!!!

I hope to be doing this in the next 3-5 years. The way the deal is drawn will vary between each transaction. What I hope to accomplish is to buy into the firm like 10-15% a year, for a standard % of shares. This gradually reduces the owners interest but provides enough incentive to allow a slow transition, if that is what is desired.
