InactiveDoes anyone have an experience or opinion on recruiting companies? I am currently searching for a job and see a lot of postings via different recruiting/staffing firms and I am wondering if these are legit? I have seen Parker&Lynch, Robert Half, LaSalle, Mark/Ryan, and amongst others…. I am not sure if I should go that route or not?

MemberA lot of them would call me with no job in line. A lot just seemed to want to call me to put me down in their database. I think for the most part you can do your own job search on indeed.com.

MemberI think it doesn't hurt… I'd continue to look on your own and let recruiters try to help you too. They are generally paid about 20% of your annual salary should you be placed by a recruiter (In my experience). That may work in your favor or not. Sometimes the recruiters are better at selling the candidates than the actual candidates are at selling themselves. Other times you may not be chosen because in addition to what everyone else has you are going to cost the company an additional 20%. I have kind of a love-hate relationship with the recruiters. I WOULD take them up on whatever they'll offer you. Review your resume, meet with you and do an informal interview, send you tips, etc. I am always nice to the ones I've had dealings with and I'm sure to follow through and be gracious. There may be a time when I need those guys!
FAR - 7/13 - 72, 11/13- 74, 2/14- 82!!! Best score ever (for me)!!!
BEC - 1/14 - 75!!! Perfect score! First Pass! YAY!!!
AUD - 8/14 - 80!!!
REG - 5/14 - 72, 10/14 - 66, 1/15 - 78 - DONE FOREVER!!!

InactiveThey're definitely legit, because most of these employers receive so many applications that they build strong relationships with these staffing agencies to find the best match. Basically they do all the screening before sending your application in. My last two jobs were obtained from staffing agencies. It seems every time I apply for a job on Indeed, it goes straight to a recruiter, who then calls me up. Some can be very pushy, but make sure it's the job you want. I did not make the right decision when I accepted my last job, and I recently quit to pursue studying for this exam full-time. I think it was the right choice.
IMO, it's the easiest way to get a job. The best part is the agency does all the contact with the employer, including salary negotiations. For example, my last job offered me $70,000 with 3 weeks of PTO. I told the recruiter that I was only interested in $80,000 and 4 weeks of PTO. I got a call two days later saying they obliged.

ParticipantPlease know there is no right or wrong answer. Some are very good, some are a waste of perfectly good oxygen. It never hurts to give them a shot but do yourself a favor and keep searching even if you do connect with a few staffing firms. The ones I've dealt with are more interested in quick turnaround than finding a good fit. One proposed an A/P position to me, which would be ok I guess except I am an accounting manager currently LOL.

MemberI got my job through a staffing agency. They hire accounting and finance positions. I know where I work now gets most of their experienced employees from staffing agencies because they will do a pre screening. Also if it doesn't work out then there isn't as much of a loss for them. In a weird twist, my husband now works for a smaller staffing agency staffing accounting and finance people (not the company I went through though) and companies basically use them for the same reason. You can hire someone on as temp or temp-to-hire, but if they aren't a good employee then you won't get signed on with the company. Then the company isn't out for unemployment.
Hope that helps a little!

MemberAlso, be careful, the recuriters lie about some positions that you see on recruiters webpages. They want to lower you down and come have a chat with you and slowly they will say “oh well, the position you are interested in just got eliminated cause they want to promote within, but i have some other opportunities if you like” . So at this point you have no choice and tell them ok show me!!!
And then the selling begins, as how nice the company is, what a wonderful people they are, blah , blah, and after 1 month being in that amazing company, you realize why people were let go and why you are being hired.
It happens all the time, thats how they get you in the door!! some are legit positions that they advertise, but some are fakes!!!
