    Hi,

I am waiting for my FAR score and not sure if I will pass. I hope so of course.

I completed my Masters and I am having trouble finding a job in an accounting firm. I am in my mid thirties and my background is as a risk manager so I already have experience asking people difficult questions and identifying trends and patterns in data. I am involved with the local society and need some help. I don’t have family that can help me.

Anyone have any suggestions for firms that I should look at?

Can you message me privately on here?

    Thanks.

@Ems215 – you're not alone. The challenge is the “traditionals” who came into “gymnastics” as children and grew up on it (came in as interns/staff/seniors) are at a lower price point per hour than a professional in their 30s. That's not unsolvable – but worth owning.

I don't know how to PM on this site or if it's possible. I can say this – in my neck of the Big-4 – there are certain segments of the financial sector (banking/investments, etc) who have very eclectic teams – made up of Enrolled Agents, CPAs, etc and of varying degrees of background and all ages. In NYC – you're right smack dab in the middle of it. Selling skills help. The firms like meat eaters 🙂

This is rather abstract but maybe a ray of hope. Even the Big-4 has its share of non-traditionals.

I have had clients before as I helped clients invest and make money in commodity options. I had to close the clients and convince them to invest so I have some sales experience.

i had to do a video interview for one of the Big 4 recently, I barely did it by the deadline as I didn't have Firefox on my computer and the capture system didn't work with Safari. I am hoping that will get me some consideration. I went and reached out to everyone again letting them know that I passed FAR.

Try some of the mid tier firms to get your foot in the door and then go Big 4 after a little experience if all else fails. I live/work in NYC at a real estate investment firm but prior to this, I was interviewing with a couple big 4 and also PKF O'Connor Davies. Look them up.
