No promotion this year - Page 5

I’ve done my time (3.5 years) and improved upon my weak areas in tax, recently finished the exam in December.. and just found out that I was passed over for promotion. I don’t get it. I’m beyond pissed. All the evenings and weekends ruined to pass the exam; was assured that the exam was the only thing in my way for the promotion and then this sucker punch. Seriously thinking about jumping ship… I don’t have my license yet so I can’t edit my resume to “John Doe, CPA” yet. Why would I want to stay at a place who doesn’t appreciate what I’ve given up for them? Sick of making old white guys rich.

Anyone else deal with this BS?

LatinoTurkCPA, don't get worked up, relax and enjoy the ride. Like you said, get your CPA and MBA and enjoy your great benefits, then high tail it out of there on your own terms…you are in a pretty good spot compared to a lot of folks.

    Florida:
AUD: 73, 81! Thank you Lord!
BEC: 73, 77! Thank you Lord! and WTB
REG: 71, 82! Thank you Lord! and A71
FAR: 72, 78! Thank you God and my Mommy in Heaven!

Haha Google is fun stuff 😛

P.S. Europe is fantastic. I'd love to go back some day.

Yeah, I guess I wrote this right after finding out that I got passed over for the promotion, so my tone is going to be a little pissed off. I'm not going to rationalize it any further. Thanks for the input – for those of you who went above and beyond just trolling. I still haven't made the correlation between ranting and the inability to supervise a team though.

I'll speak to my “mentor” and see what she says about this and then I'll start sending out my resume. Heck, maybe I can leverage a better salary once I receive some offers 🙂

@smalltimeauditor I wouldn't plan to get a better salary with the current company based on offers from other companies. I was going to try that at one place (I knew my pay was well below the market rate but at the time the job was decent otherwise) and my dad, who has always been in manager roles, said that he wouldn't advise it because anytime that an employee came to him with an offer from somewhere else, he considered them no longer loyal cause they were looking elsewhere. If he made a new deal with them, he still saw them as just a temporary employee from that point on.

However, getting frustrated with lack of promotion and considering moving elsewhere is understandable. You may never know why the current employer didn't choose you, but I'm slowly coming to the conclusion that in order to advance in the corporate world, you have to either cut throats (which I prefer not to do) or jump ship. And “advance” can mean by title or by pay. It's kinda like once they have you, they forget they have to treat you right to keep you, too.

(By the way, did you intentionally arrange your test scores so that they spelled “Barf”? haha!)
