No promotion this year - Page 4

I’ve done my time (3.5 years) and improved upon my weak areas in tax, recently finished the exam in December.. and just found out that I was passed over for promotion. I don’t get it. I’m beyond pissed. All the evenings and weekends ruined to pass the exam; was assured that the exam was the only thing in my way for the promotion and then this sucker punch. Seriously thinking about jumping ship… I don’t have my license yet so I can’t edit my resume to “John Doe, CPA” yet. Why would I want to stay at a place who doesn’t appreciate what I’ve given up for them? Sick of making old white guys rich.

Anyone else deal with this BS?

    B - Passed
    A - Passed
    R - Passed
    F - Passed

Thanks for the posts. Kind of makes me reconsider my decision about leaving the state…. sounds like there is the same bs going on everywhere….

BTW, if they are complaining about somebody's English Language skills, why hire them in the first place!?!

I think it's because they want an entry level person for the grunt work. Language skills issue may or may not be an actual issue.

tough_kitty, we are talking about Miami here. In this part of the US, it’s kind of hard to find Accountants that speak fluent English. Most big international companies require you to be bilingual. I think Im one of the few individuals that can speak both languages without an accent. And that’s because I took a bunch of accent reduction classes,so I can sound more like my fellow American friends and fool immigration too. 

I'm guessing by bilingual you mean English & Spanish? In CA they want you to speak Spanish too but they hire a lot of people from other countries whose English skills aren't the best. I guess you gotta love this country for not caring much about proper pronunciation….or hate, depending which side you are on 😉

Accent reduction classes – that's what they are called? I need to take those too. Still trying to get rid of my non-English accent.
