Hi Everyone, I really need some career advice from you guys-

I have been working as an international accountant in a public trade company for almost two years. Mainly working on month end closing, Intercompany transactions, cash and AP. I also had two year outsourcing accounting experiences before I came to US. I got my MBA in 2011.

I got my license in November officially and I am looking for a new opportunity

I was turned down right before Thanksgiving by BCG last month because they felt my consolidation experience was not enough for their international accountant role…:(

Now I really feel confused about what I should do next…going to public or staying in industry?

    Thanks!!

    AUD-73, 73, 73, 79!!
    BEC-77!
    FAR-60, 83!
    REG-66, 72, 75!

    MA CPA license

It's really tough getting into public accounting outside of college recruiting. I would say keep applying to the accounting jobs you want in public or private and something will eventually work out. It's all about finding the right position at the right time. Don't let one job rejection keep you from doing what you want. Good luck!

@auslaf–Hey there, thank you so much for the advice! This Friday, I met an agent from Kforce for a senior accountant role in a local private company which made me feel worse-

He said ” well, the potential employers will not care about your two years experience outside of US (I was working for two American companies as an accountant). MBA, hmmm, it really doesn't matter…” I said ” how about CPA license?”

He said” it may be a plus….”

I felt that all my input cannot be paid back at one moment or maybe he is an idiot?

Shan there are some very good recruiters, and some recruiters who have no business at all placing professional positions. Sounds like you met with the latter. I've mentioned a few times that a recruiter from KBW keeps sending me A/P clerk listings even though he knows very well I am currently employed as an accounting manager. Kid isn't bright.

Anyway, you can go into public or private, the question is what are YOU looking for.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

Everything you did counts. Go for another recruiter if you can't get interviews out of this one.

Shan- I have had the same trouble with recruiters, similar to what mla1169 said. Ignore discouraging comments and keep applying. You will find the right job.
