I’m always looking for new ideas to expand my network, so I’m curious: what are you doing to maintain/grow your network? Who/what exactly comprises your network? Friends/family/co-workers/bosses/clients/colleagues/alumni/recruiters etc etc. What are some key concepts you keep in mind when networking?

Kind of like dating. You need to be close enough to someone to feel comfortable asking them for more details on an opening st their company, ask them to forward the right recruiters email to you, or even pass your resume along directly.

Many ways to do this. Could be joining a young professionals intramural league, a professional organization, cold calls (although this is the hardest, it may be more effective since it's strictly professional), industry group, volunteer events, charitable organization, etc.

Then , be nice and friendly and get their phone number, email address, or connect with them on linkedin.

Get involved with something. If you like sports, find a recreational league. If you are religious, get plugged in to a church. Anything that will give you opportunities to interact with other people.
