Hi. I have an interview for State Auditor Position next week and would like to know if anyone who work as a state auditor can give me some info on what is a typical day like working as a state auditor? Should I expect some behavior questions at interview? Thank you very much.

I have a friend who got hired as a state auditor a few months ago. They asked her to give examples of her ability to multi task, why she felt like she would be good at this job and, what in her life has given her the ability to handle difficult situations – just a few that I can remember. I know she did a lot of research on the state auditor web site. There were a lot of pdfs on every entity they audit, results of the audits, procedures for follow up, software used, philosphy of the state audtior, upcoming goals for the auditor office. She says it was definitely one of the reasons she got the job. She knew all of that background inside and out. Good luck!

State AG positions sell themselves on the “regular” hours, it's a State gig, so you're pretty much 8:00- 5:00 M-F and plenty of holidays.

Sure, you'll get good at GASB standards and be surrounded by a bunch of retirement-focused clock watchers. And because of that, you'll have the stink of government work on you, which can be a real limit to your ability to place into a professional role elsewhere.

You'll sincerely miss the energy of the first year experience in Public where you would have colleagues your own age and a variety of cool client challenges…the GASB stuff is dull…plus you have to deal with encumbrances, etc. And it's Fund Accounting, which is another pain.

As Indiana Jones was once cautioned, “Choose carefully.”

I type this post from a government computer as a state auditor.. I've worked here 9 months now with the original plan to pass the CPA and enjoy not being worked to death while starting out my career. That being said, Dingo makes a lot of great points. If you want to make this into a career job you have to have a lot of ambition because others won't push you to your potential in government jobs.

That being said, if you start with a government office, you can always go on to bigger and better things so long as you don't stay there too long. Just be careful.

Is anyone working as a State Program Auditor/Examiner (Fiscal) or held this position before?
I am interested in applying for this position and I would like to know how it is when working as a State Program Auditor/Examiner (Fiscal). For instance, in New York State.
    Thanks!
