I am a child of the 80s and have been working in a different career for the last ten years and am making my way into accounting. I have three degrees and my accounting certificate. I have a BS in computer engineering, a MIS degree, and a masters in another discipline. With my computer experience it would seem that the best route to go would be to pursue a CISA in tandem with the CPA that I am working on now.
I also have a family and a young child and on the whole my wife and I do not want to move beyond a specific region (access to family/etc.).
So here are my questions… Does anyone have experience working in IT Assurance/auditing who can offer a perspective of what the field is like, and how to gain experience in it? Are the jobs mainly in the big four? What other companies would be seeking IT Assurance/Auditors and could provide the additional training necessary to be successful?
Would it be better to instead pursue a career in Auditing/Assurance and then move to IT when possible?
Thanks
