Moving from small firm to Big 4

I am currently working at a small (20 people) firm where I have been for 4.5 years. I have done about 60% FS reviews and 40% tax. I have a contact (who is a partner) at a big 4 firm who said she would help me if I ever decided I wanted to switch over. I have come to the realization that public accounting may not be my thing but that it is going to be difficult moving to industry with my current experience. My contact said I would probably make the switch to audit as a senior associate. Anyone have any input on how you think this switch would go? Will I be way over my head?

Have you only done reviews? No full fledged audits?

I'm also wondering about this as well. I've always had the dream of working at a Big 4 one day. How does this process usually work out? Say I've worked at a midsized for about ~3 years and was promoted to senior. Do people just one day say “I want to try to switch to a bigger firm”? How does this all work?
