Mentioning another interview to a recruiter

Hello everyone. I have a question that I am currently worrying about. Today I received a callback from one of the public accounting firms that I am targeting for a second interview. Since the callback was late in the day, and rather unexpected, I inadvertently mentioned that I was interviewing with another firm (did not give out a name) on one of the days that the recruiter wanted me to schedule on. I expressed my continued interest in the firm, and that I am very highly interested in a second interview. The recruiter said she would get back to me Monday on new times for an interview from the partners. My worry is have I blown a chance for a second interview by letting it slip that that I have an interview with another public accounting firm? This is what I am afraid of, especially since this firm is high up on my list at the moment. I would normally not mention other interviews. Any thoughts?

I don't think so, if it gets brought up just play it down (just exploring all options until I've found the right opportunity).

I wouldn't worry at all. It is expected that you would be considering other options at the same time.

If they are asking you to come in for a second interview, having interest from another firm is not going to change their mind. In fact, it will probably put pressure on them.

I certainly wouldn't worry. I was upfront with the several firms that I was talking to earlier this year and I think they appreciated that. Also, I communicated what firms I was talking to and what offers what offers, if any, were on the table.

Best of luck! Sounds like you're going to be just fine!

Thanks guys. I am worried is all, especially since I have been waiting all week for this call, and I get it and don't manage to schedule an interview. Its the anxiety that because I mentioned another interview (context; I set up this interview weeks in advance, and I will not be able to easily change it last minute), as well as the fact that I am traveling next week, and the fact that the recruiter said the partners wouldn't be available at the end of next week. What I am worried about is putting too many obstacles in front of this recruiter that hey just give up and not call back Monday with times for a second interview. This is primarily why I am worried that I blew the chance for the 2nd interview here.

    SAO247,

Because I couldn't get time off at my last job, it took me almost a month to schedule an in-person interview (office visit) with PwC. When I finally got there for the interview, I got the job.

If the firm wants you, they will work with you.

It sounds like they certainly want you.

I think it's better not to mention them about another because there are always some people who might take this as offense. Better to be safe then sorry. Said it's not uncommon for recruiter to ask partners and get back to you with new times. They can't schedule an interview without asking the partner, recruiters have to keep their jobs as well lol. Don't stress yourself out. I know finding a good job is hard and the whole process takes its toll on you.
Hopefully you will get the interview and job. Good luck!
