Hi everybody. I started my career in industry 3 years ago at a Fortune 500 and got my CPA during that time. I have an interview next week in the office and was wondering if anybody here had some tips/insight on what to expect. Thanks!

@meowmix I like the A71 tag first of all!

Do you have others that come in as entry-level associates with some experience? Do you think they would see that as an advantage? The reason I ask is because almost everyone seems to come straight out of college. I have 3 years of Fortune 500 exp in SEC reporting and other areas so I am confident I would do well, but not sure about their thoughts.

@ CPA_Runner. It's not unusual at all (cue Tom Jones)! We had a nationwide training and one of the associates I met was 28 years old who recently got married. He had a career change so now he's an associate in Boston. He became a very close co-worker of mine and we still stay in touch! Having that extra background can only help you as you've proved you can hold down a job and have crucial past business experience.

I had no previous experience out of college and my internships were not accounting related so I was “behind” the curve so to speak. However, I think I transitioned really well and I'm thankful that my co-workers were so understanding and helpful in teaching and helping me.

Do you have any tips for the actual interview?

I know you've only been at this firm, but does anything stick out to you about it?

What are some things you're enjoying about it so far?

Hope you're busy season is going well. My company's auditors are in full gear right now!

hmm, nothing too unusual. I think it was a pretty standard interview compared to B4 and other national firms. It's all behavioral questions and seeing if you can hold a conversation. I really liked the atmosphere as I don't feel as much pressure/office politics compared to what I hear about B4.

I have to say I really enjoy the people + the work environment. From what I hear from friends at other firms, I am doing more audit sections than other first years. I really like that instead of just doing cash/FA all day. People will take time out of their day to explain things really well so the transition isn't bad.

That sounds great, thanks! I've done over a year of cash acct so that section should be a breeze. Can't wait!
