    Hi all,

I know there’s a lot of chat about salaries and benefits on this site but very little as far as maternity leave. I’m just curious what is the norm out there, I know B4 have decent leave policies but I also know its hard to have a family and work in the B4 (while it is done by many, I don’t think its for me). That being said please fill in below for your companies:

    Co. size: <10 people

    Time: 6 weeks

Pay: disability (so about 170 bucks a week)

    AUD 85 (11.10 - expired), 0 (2.13), 82* (5.13)
    BEC 49 (5.09), 38 (5.11), 75* (10.11)
    REG 65 (2.11), 74 (11.11), 0 (2.12), 81* (4.12)
    FAR 67 (5.12), 73 (12.12), 78* (2.13)

You get 170 a week for the 6 weeks??

this scares me! I work for a small firm as well and am trying to get pregnant – who can survive off 170 a week?!

    A - 75
    B - 78 God is good.
    F - 77 Answered prayers.
    R - 84! Done!!

Paperwork sent - waiting for license!!
Still on a cloud and in shock. Through God, all things will happen.

I work in industry and our policy isn't great

    Company size 1200+ employees

Leave is 5 weeks paid at 60% AFTER the first week is taken from your PTO so you get 6 weeks for maternity leave with the first week at full pay, but deducted from your vacation and the next 5 weeks paid at 60% if you have short term disability.

CPA Exam - Finally DONE (November 2014)
    BEC (08/10/13) 80
    AUD (08/24/13) 65 (11/13/13) 85
    FAR (04/12/14) 81
    REG (07/19/14) 69 (11/29/14) 87!!

I also work in industry (25k+) and we do not even have a policy. Your maternity leave is however much PTO you have saved!

Co. size: 12 professional staff (5 CPA's, hopefully 6 by May)

Time: 4 weeks (additional time if you use vacation & personal time) after 1 year of employment. Maternity leave accrues over first year. My basic understanding since I will never get to use it.

Pay: paid at base rate (i.e. salaried staff receive normal pay, full-time admin receive base rate at 40 hours a week)

Now if I could just convince the partners to implement paternity leave.

    CPA firm size: 30+ professonals

Time/Pay: Our Firm states that maternity leave is similar to sick leave. You have to use your PTO hours if you want to take a maternity or paternity leave. If you do not have PTO available in your bank, then you have to take the time unpaid. Our Firm will hold your position for up to two months, but not after.

    We pay hourly, not salary.

With that said, we also allow our female employees to work part-time if a childcare situation comes up. We have many employees who drop to 2 or 3 days per week. Any benefits they receive, such as health insurance premiums paid by the Firm, are also prorated down accordingly.

    Company Size: ~2,000

    Time: 12 weeks

Pay: The entire time is 100% paid. We have a short term disability plan, but whatever it doesn't cover, the company will pay up to your salary.

    Sigh….how embarrassing for the US

    https://www.businessweek.com/articles/2015-01-15/maternity-leave-u-dot-s-dot-policies-still-fail-workers

(I guess if you can mention the states you're in that would help too, as it appears California, Rhode Island and New Jersey Labor Departments have mandated paid leaves for their people).

    I'm in New York.

    AUD 85 (11.10 - expired), 0 (2.13), 82* (5.13)
    BEC 49 (5.09), 38 (5.11), 75* (10.11)

@Determined, that is normal family leave policy in NY, there is no official maternity leave policy here. But yes, you just had a kid and your salary has been bumped to a tiny fraction of the norm, go figure….

    AUD 85 (11.10 - expired), 0 (2.13), 82* (5.13)
    BEC 49 (5.09), 38 (5.11), 75* (10.11)
    REG 65 (2.11), 74 (11.11), 0 (2.12), 81* (4.12)

    500+ employees. Healthcare. AZ

No stated maternity policy, but there is an extended illness bank of PTO. It is accrued separately from your normal PTO and at the rate of 40 hours per year. You use 40 hours of regular PTO and then your EIB can be used on extended illnesses (FMLA items are covered) up to 160 hours. My wife had a baby and I was able to take a month off to care for our child after her leave was up using this EIB benefit. Disability insurance is available for a cost and can work out if you plan accordingly.

It is interesting to read what is out there.

Big4 (from a male perspective, not sure if it differs)

    – Eight weeks fully paid (filled out a single sheet of paper, and my regular paycheck kept on coming in, PTO still accrued as well!).

    and

    – Regular state disability (six weeks in California), though I didn't take this one.

I'm in CA I've taken mat leave twice from 2 different co's

1.) CPA firm ~50 professional staff

I was able to use PTO (4 weeks per year) to cover what state disability doesn't which is 55% of your pay for 1

week before and 8 weeks after due to c/s, and an additional 6 weeks PFL (at 55%). The best part is, all that disability

    pay is non-taxable.

    2.) NPO ~60 employees

Same CA disability rules in place, only my job is much easier to manage and so I worked through to delivery and took

off the 8 weeks plus 6 more PFL. I was able to use my 2 weeks per year of sick (which I never take so I had much

more than that) and some vacation, at the time I got 3 weeks. Now I'm up to 4 weeks vacation.

I THINK in California paid maternity leave isn't as important because we have such a great state disability program, of course we all pay into it…

    FAR - 7/13 - 72, 11/13- 74, 2/14- 82!!! Best score ever (for me)!!!
BEC - 1/14 - 75!!! Perfect score! First Pass! YAY!!!
    AUD - 8/14 - 80!!!
    REG - 5/14 - 72, 10/14 - 66, 1/15 - 78 - DONE FOREVER!!!
I did 5 of the UNA and CPAExcel classes to earn units.

Up to 12 weeks, PTO must be taken first, then 70% ST disability kicks in

    #643045

4 kids (3 at one job and 1 at another). My maternity was the same at both companies

    1) Company side (1) <10 people (2) >10,000 people

    2) 8 weeks with both companies (plus an additional 3 weeks with baby #3)

    3) fully paid… every bit of it… along with all of my benefits.
