Manufacturing vs Construction

I would like to do something that involves some kind of cost accounting. An obvious place for that is manufacturing but construction seems like an opportunity for that too. My concern with manufacturing is that opportunities don’t open up very often (just my observation, I don’t know if that’s actually true) Construction opportunities seem more abundant. Thoughts?

I would think that depends on where you are and what the construction market is like in your area. In my region, I've seen many postings for manufacturing accounting jobs, but none for construction; however, the construction market around here is worse than dead, so that's the reason there's nothing in construction. That being said, the manufacturing positions in my area open up too frequently – for some reason, no one seems to be able to keep the job long. I'll see the same position for the same plant advertised every few months, which is concerning to me.

If it was me personally, I'd choose construction over manufacturing, but that's probably because my dad worked in construction and I helped out in his office so the first accounting I ever did was construction accounting. At the end of the day, though, each job is what you make of it, so I don't think it makes too much of a difference which one you pick.

I live in a city that is heavily growing and the construction companies are making bank. But there is no guarantee I will live here forever. There are quite a number of manufacturers as well. However, I looked at the websites of 36 manufacturers and none of them have openings for accounting positions on their websites. I don't see any on indeed either.
