In May 2011, I graduated with a pre-med degree from a top 20 university near Chicago, IL. I enrolled in grad school following graduation. After my first semester of grad school, I decided that I didn’t want to go to medical school, withdrew from my grad program, and enrolled at a university in Tampa, FL (close to home), to pursue a second bachelor’s degree in accounting. I am on track to graduate in May 2013, so I’ll be going through the recruiting process in just a couple weeks. I’m fairly confident in my ability to get a job with the Big Four in Tampa. I graduated with a 3.3 GPA at my previous school and currently have a 4.0 at my new school. However, I am much more interested in working in Chicago, and I’m worried that getting a job there will prove more difficult than getting an offer with the local office.
Now, I have a few questions for the board. First, do the Big Four often hire students from universities that aren’t near the office where they will eventually work? Is it indeed more difficult to get a Big Four offer at an office other than the one local to your university? Is there anything I can do to help my chances? Do you think it will be any easier because I have a degree, even though it isn’t in accounting, from a university that does feed into the Big Four in Chicago? That really is my only connection to Chicago, but during my time there, I fell in love with the city.
I appreciate everyone’s time, and I look forward to seeing what you all have to say.
