LinkedIn, add or don't add?

    There is a certain supervisor at a certain department at our parent company that I wish to work for, and one of the people under him has left the company. I am just wondering, should I add this supervisor on LinkedIn, and just say hi, how are you doing and such? We have not met each other in person, but he would recognize my name if he sees it.

    Yes, add him and introduce yourself with a short message. Great way to get your foot in the door!

    This sound all right?

    Hi Mr. (name). My name is (name), and currently am an auditor for (company). I have previously expressed interest in joining your team in (month and year), prior to landing at (company). I just wanted to say hi, and that my interest in joining your team has not changed.

    I wanted to add a couple of more sentences, but the LinkedIn message you can add to a request to connect with someone has a certain character limit.

    I would use “hello” instead of “hi” in the message, but this is the point of LinkedIn – to help with networking and connecting with other professionals.

    Didn't realize your post was 11 hours old. Probably too late for my comment now.

    @k917

    No worries. I just sent the message, so I incorporated what you said. 🙂

    Just to give an update, I don't know if this means anything, but he accepted my LinkedIn invitation.

    As I predicted, he is looking for a replacement. However, he said that I do not meet the minimum experience requirement. But he also said that if he cannot find a suitable candidate, then he might repost this position at a lower level at which point I can apply.
