I am a Vietnamese, 23, working for a bank in Japan and now applying to take CPA exam with New Hampshire.
I do not think there is any problem with my education background to be eligible to sit for the exam. However, supposed I can pass the exam in 2 years from now, what is the next step to get licensed? Under is the information I get online:
[The New Hampshire Board of Accountancy requires that all prospective CPAs fulfill paid public or governmental accounting experience requirements. A supervising CPA must verify this experience. Your college or university’s career center can help you find appropriate work opportunities.
If you have a bachelor’s degree, you must complete two years (3000 hours) of work experience to qualify for certification/licensure
If you have a master’s degree, you must complete one year (1500 hours) of work experience to qualify for certification/licensure
Competencies that must be encompassed within your work experience include a combination of these skills:
Auditing, reviewing, and reporting financial statements
Financial advisory services
Audit procedures
Management advisory services
Preparing tax returns
Providing tax advice (tax matters and tax returns)
Consulting services
Responsibilities of the Verifying CPA
Hold a current license to practice as a CPA in New Hampshire, the United States, or in one of the following jurisdictions:
CPA from Australia
Chartered Accountant from Canada or Australia
Chartered Accountant from Ireland
Contadores Publicos Certificado from Mexico
…
Responsibilities of the Applicant
Choose a licensed, certified CPA from one of the above jurisdictions]
So which firm should I work for to get licensed if my next place after passing the exam will be Singapore? What if I cannot get into Big 4, will an accountant post in any companies help? I even found online people having passed CPA could not find an accounting job. Should I go for MSc Acc&Fin in UK (LSE for instance)/MBA in US first without taking the CPA exam? I got 3.57 in undergrad Business Administration. Further education to me is to stop with CPA or further with top schools and can only pay max US$40k~50k for it. My aim is to be specialized in accounting and generalized further as a business analyst/management consultant.
Really looking forward to your advice.
