Or have some sort of actual weekly limit in terms of hours. Not only in accounting/finance, but in so many fields employers simply hire one individual for two jobs. Does anyone else feel this way? It’s pathetic when I work until 1 am some nights for no overtime. I feel like I’m being used.

Without going on another rant part of the problem is that new generations have access to the web. In the olden days you might know a few people with better jobs and better pay, but on this site alone I have seen at least a 100 people with better jobs than I ever had. You then have all these people working 90 hour work weeks reading about higher salaries for people with the same degree who work 40 hours per week. In the olden days know one knew any better and ignorance is bliss, as the saying rightfully goes.

I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:

"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

Studymonk: Lol. It must be a generation thing. We aren't called the “me” generation for nothing. šŸ™‚

I admit, I do get dollar signs in my eyes when I hear about friends/acquaintances/friends of friends who got WX job at Y company making $Z. I don't get sad or mad about it though. It definitely motivates me knowing better opportunities are out there.

    Something to strive for, no?

Who here is consistently working 90 hour weeks?

    That's 13 hour days … 7 days a week.

I remember one of my friends from undergrad telling me he was working 170 hours every two weeks at the Big 4 .

But this was his internship. So he was getting paid time and a half. And not complaining.

Not sure if the salaried people were working the same hours. I'd presume so.

Jeff – my first 2 busy seasons I worked 14 hour days, 7 days a week, for 2 months. Thankfully the past 4 busy seasons weren't nearly that bad!

I think the one or two people who have claimed 90 plus plus hour work weeks burned into my mind, so I should probably stop using 90 hour work weeks as the implied norm. I wonder what the true average is.

A weekend of manual labor? Ha! During college I worked plenty of hard labor jobs. It doesn't change my opinion.

My favorite was when I worked at UPS. only 4 hours of constant box moving. I put in my 2 weeks and did irrigation (digging) for 8 hours then went to UPS for the rest of the day for 2 weeks. Constant manual labor.
