I am double majoring in Accounting and Finance (graduating in May of 2016).

I am currently working as a server at a restaurant in the casino (I make really good money – enough to pay for all my bills, etc). Should I leave my current job (I only have been there for a month) and do an internship in accounting OR should I transfer to a different department in my company (vault/audit/etc)?

Will doing an accounting internship matter?

I plan on getting my CPA after I graduate.

    Thanks…

    non-target school/ 3.7 GPA

accounting internship > being a server, you want to show prospective employers you are serious about accounting. but working at restaurant will also give you good talking points, of how you work well in groups, with people etc.

Anything is better than nothing. So if u don't have anything lined up, then stay put. But if u can get something acctg related wether at ur current company or outside of it, then it'd be good to do that instead.

I would stay until you get an actual internship offer. I wouldn't quit just took “look around” for an internship. There is nothing wrong with your job. As a server, you deal with many different personalities and situations. So it's similiar to public accounting or any other job for that matter. Besides, your making good money to pay your bills so stay put for now. Do you have recruiters that come to your school and visit? You can network that way and possibly lock in a full time offer since your a year out from graduation.
