Job offer for a career change?!

I have always wanted to get into buying/inventory and supply chain management. I believe it holds similar skills accounting demands but is more dynamic. While looking for another job, I came across an Assistant Buyer position for a retail candy company. Went through all the interviews, and really loved the team. A great this is that the Controller seems to really like me, and we even discussed potentially having me help with accounting if I wanted to and if there was room in the company. As of right now they need an Assistant Buyer, and gave me a fair offer. Because this is a career change and an entry level job, I would be taking a paycut, which is expected. I did push for a little bit more just to meet ends, and waiting for them to get back to me about. ( Nervous since I really am interested – could they just take back an offer?!)

I went to interview at a start-up tech company for a Staff Accountant role, it is a great opportunity being the only person under the Director of Finance. However, I did not feel the excitement or chemistry with her. Though it would make sense to wait for this opportunity, I just wasn’t that excited for this job. I have one more final interview with another tech company today and will see how that goes, but am I crazy for switching now after going through the tests? (I still have two more but in the process and will get them done)

Just wanted to see what you guys thought, I feel like I can always go back to accounting yet I am SO scared for this change as I am not sure what to expect. What would you do?

Do you have any accounting experience yet? Cause if you've already met the experience requirements, I'd say go on over to the job you want, and you can still finish up the CPA exam and have the CPA credentials on your record, for if you ever need them. (Given that you talked about taking a paycut to change careers, I'm assuming you already have accounting experience..)

If you don't have the experience requirements met yet, then you simply have to decide which one you really want. Cause as far as I'm concerned, it's better to be doing a job you enjoy than making a paycheck that's more impressive. You might have “wasted” time on the exam, but if supply chain management is really what you want to do, then why waste more years in accounting?

Make the change. It's not a waste to get your CPA exams passed while changing careers; it would be far more wasteful to take a job you didn't enjoy and grow annoyed or angry at it.
