I just received a call from the only firm that extended me an offer. But she didn’t offer me what I wanted! It’s a mid-size firm and they have 2 locations. I interviewed at that location close to my house (about 10-15 minutes away) for full-time audit January start. She called me back and offered me full-time audit SEPTEMBER start and the location on the other side of town! About half hour drive not considering traffic and/or snow. And I would still have to go there and meet them. I don’t know if I want to drive that far everyday especially as the weather starts to get worse (snow). Second I feel that shes only offering me this because she took all the good candidates for the location by my house and is giving me what’s left. (I doubt that’s true but its how I’m feeling now). Third, what am I going to do until September I haven’t worked in about 4 months. I will have 150 credits by December and have one section passed, one pending, and two to take this November. It’s my second year going to recruiting season so the majority of the firm know who I am. So if I don’t take this offer I probably will end up looking for something in industry which I know nothing about. However, I don’t want to loose the opportunity. I need advice on whether or not I should accept it?

@billbrasskey – And think about all the networking opportunities for the “repeat clients”.

I got my current job working behind the bar- a couple partners at my firm would go there for happy hour. It totally fast tracked me with the partners.

    I know what they drink.

In all seriousness- you can really do some solid networking from behind a bar. If I ever started my own practice, I'd go back to doing it on the weekends in a heart beat.

It provides solid and immediate cash flow for the mortgage and a steady source of potential clients. I'd bet you could pick up several hundred personal tax returns if you were dedicated enough.

I knew a real estate agent at the Jersey Shore who tended bar. Guy was clearing $500k a year and making most of his contacts while tending.
