I recently had a 2nd interview with a 60 person accounting firm. At the end of the interview they told me that I had the job and that I should expect an offer within a few days. During the first interview, they had asked me about salary and I paniced and I gave a kinda low number. It’s approximately 8k lower than what a big four firm would pay here. Am I locked into this number or will I be able to negotiate? Also will they cancel my offer if I try to negotiate? Also what type of benefits should I expect

If you gave them a number lower than what they were expecting, they may take advantage of that in their offer and low-ball you. I would try to negotiate.

Just make sure you do it from a position of authority, because you know you're worth more than what you quoted. Instead of saying you panicked, something like “After further consideration and research, I feel that a salary of $$$ is more in line with my experience and qualifications” might bring them back up to a more reasonable rate. I really don't think they would rescind an offer because you asked for more money, negotiations are expected and all part of doing business. It might be unreasonable to expect a Big 4 offer from a 60 person firm, but don't let them take you for granted. Good luck!

What state are you from? And did you apply through job agency?
