Is the CPA exam worth it? YES!

My NY CPA license was finally approved and I am now a licensed NY CPA! My application was sent to the board on May 1, and I appeared on the license CPA list on Sept 13, about 4.5 months later. During that time I was laid off from the CPA firm that I got my 1 year experience with, got a new job back in the private industry, and discovered that I am pregnant again. It was totally worth the studying for the CPA exam (2.5 years and a child) and working in public accounting for 15 months. Even the lay off was worth it. I learned a lot about public accounting and I know for sure that I prefer private accounting. My bosses also ask me for things that they used to ask the external CPA for, thus lowering the professional fees expense.

    AUD 2/2011 76 (lost credit), 2/2013 71, 7/2013 78
    REG 2/2012 82
    BEC 2/2013 75
    FAR 4/2013 75

5 years in private accounting, < 1 year in public accounting. Runner, mommy, dog and cat lover. SO glad I took the exam before I went to public accounting.

Love this post. Although I already passed my CPA exams, it encourages me in some way. Congratulations on the pregnancy and best of luck with your career!

Congrats on passing, certification, AND your new little one 🙂 I am glad to see a fellow mama who did it because it really encourages me that it is possible!
