I’m planning to apply to public accounting firms.

I won’t be able to start working till September due to being in school.

I am going to be applying to a lot of places but there is one firm I consider to be my top choice!!

I’ve already met the Big 4 and some of the others through networking/interviews [this was for winter internships] but didn’t get any offers.

Now that I passed two sections of the CPA exam, I am eager to reapply to all the places that didn’t take me before and other places I hadn’t heard of until recently. My main question is: Is it too early to apply/contact recruiters or is it in my best interest to start doing this now?

It's not too early. Most firms that are looking to hire for the fall are recruiting now (at least in Dallas). I'm in the same situation/time-frame you are, and I've been interviewing already. From experience, it seems like the big 4 and middle market firms will hire well in advance,while smaller firms tend to recruit closer to the intended start date.

Besides, even if they aren't currently recruiting, reaching out ahead of time might just make them remember you when you apply later.

Kudos to you both for getting the CPA out of the way while the info is still fresh in your head. I wish I had done that myself. Life can get in the way, but when you are done, you will be so relieved. Best of luck to you both on the exam and interviewing.
