I currently work for a fortune 500 company. Is it a good idea to switch to government Not-for profit organization.

I’m wondering if I work for a government for a couple years, would it be difficult to find a job in private industry, not sure if the government accounting experience will be counted / benefit ?

You will probably earn less in Gov't but you'll have nice benefits and presumably a great pension, and most likely not a hard job or long hours.
If you long term goal is to go private I would probably not go gov't to private, but rather try and move directly into private.

It all depends on what your long term goals are.
