Hello NINJAs! I’m new here and need your advice…
My question is, is a degree in accounting really important for a new immigrant to get a job in public accounting in the US?
I currently work for a big 4 firm in China, 2 yrs’ experience. Non-accounting major, but I’ve taken some non-degree courses to meet the CPA exam sitting requirements. I’ve passed AUD and am working on FAR.
I’m moving to the US permanently next year. Not sure how much my Chinese big 4 experience value in the US job market. Some people suggest me pursue a master degree first, for it could get me the qualifications as well as other resources for job hunting.
Personally, I do think doing a degree can get me some network resources and give me time to adapt to new environment, but does it worth it to pay all the money and time?
My goal is to get into an accounting firm. I don’t mind if it’s a local smaller firm or big 4. (of course big 4 is better if I had a chance)
I’d really like to hear from you guys if you know about the hiring process. How much does educational background matter? What are employers’ attitudes towards international work experience? What preparations you think I need to do in order to be qualified?
Big big thanks to you all!!!!
