I will be giving away an iPad 3 Thursday to someone in the forum. Here are the details:

    Who: 1 Randomly-selected winner.

You don’t have to be a current candidate to enter – Alums are welcome too!

The selection will be recorded through a screencast.

Note – the winner will be double-checked to make sure they don’t have more than one forum account posting in the giveaway thread, so no shenanigans.

What: iPad 3 – $499 model (winner will have the option to pay for any upgrades/features they want added)

Why: iPads are awesome (I have an iPad 2 … hope I win!) 😉

    How:

    1. “Like” another71 on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/another71)

    2. In this thread, post a CPA Exam or Accounting Career tip (or both) that you think would benefit a College Senior or recent graduate. If you work for a Big 4 or Regional Accounting Firm, interview tips or anything making the process easier would be great.

    That’s it … Good Luck!

    ***

    New Prizes Added!

    – 5 Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University Memberships (Online)

    – 5 Complete NINJA Audios

    – 5 Complete NINJA Notes

My advice is to do the multiple choice questions as much as possible. Also you may have to try other review courses If one doesn't work… I am having much better results in the one subject I keep failing (audit…) with Roger review than I did w/yeager or Becker.

    Good Luck!

For recent grads- Start studying and taking the CPA exams ASAP. You will be told over and over again that it only gets harder, and it does. Your workload, hours, stress etc will increase rapidly. It is more difficult to study once you have been out of “study mode” for an extended period of time. As for studying 2 things that have helped me are re-writing notes and non-stop multiple choice questions.

    A: 78
    R:78
    F: TBD
    B: 5/30

Exam: Stay positive, no matter what!! It’s easy to get overwhelmed and frustrated when your study time is interrupted or your practice exam scores aren’t what you hope them to be or you receive a score of 73 on your exam (Happened to me…). It’s ok. It happens. Take a deep breath and keep trying. If you don’t feel ready as your exam date approaches, don’t beat yourself up; instead push the date out and take the extra time to master the material the best you can. As long as you keep your eyes on the prize, learn from your experiences and continue to work hard, your goals will be obtained. Remember, you are doing this for yourself!

I think that it's important to get the CPA exam done while you are still at school. Otherwise you will be super busy, tired and lose motivation to study. Get internships in the last 2 years or so! Start early!

Exam Tip – MCQ's are your best friend. Always make sure you understand why you answered a question wrong. This takes time but helps in the long run. Utlized http://www.cpareview4free.com to do more MCQ's!

Career Tip – starting out in public accounting (big 4 or regional) and committing at least 3 years will not only provide you with great experience, but it will also open up so many doors for your career. If you can do more than 3, that's even better!

Take the exam sooner rather than later. I graduated 7 years ago and find myself having to completely relearn almost everything.

And put in the time. It takes a rare person to pass without much effort.

    BEC- 73, 73, 80
    REG- 74, 83
FAR- 50(didn't study), 76 (<--How the heck did that happen?)

    Finished!!

Exam tip: Work through as many MCs as possible before exam date; try to understand why you got answers wrong versus just chugging through without understanding. Get plenty of sleep the night before and eat a nutritious breakfast the day of the exam.

Exam Tip: Relax, start with the hardest material first. Take the exam as soon as possible after graduation, it's harder to get motivated the longer you wait. Repetition, do as many MCQ's as you can.

Internship tip or both Big 4 and local firm: Ask questions… All the time. It shows you truly care about what you are doing and actively want to learn the craft. I know the Big 4 especially love to see you interacting with team members constantly.

Exam tips: Make it a habit! Make it your lifestyle! If it's time to study, don't see it as a chore or put it at the bottom of your list… give it a priority and stay on top of your study plan! Relax on the day of the exam instead of trying to cram as much as you can… and PACTICE lots of MCQ's!!!!

Realize that these tests are made to trick you so don't be disappointed if you fail even when you thought you did well. I had passed every part except audit and failed 3 times before passing. I even thought I had an almost perfect and I scored a 70 and then the same study sessions I just did it over and got a 97! Never give up!

Exam Tips- If you are not totally committed to studying don't even try it. You have to be willing to say no to your friend and family or you just won't pass.

And try to actually understand the material, don't just memorize, only resort to memorizing if you really can't understand certain topics.

BIG 4 interviewing tip: Get a lay out of the companies that the firm already audits, do your homework before you go to the interview. I highly suggest an internship, or sometimes the firm will have a summer leadership program that you can go to that may lead into an internship. I went to the summer leadership program the summer before my junior year and that led into me getting my internship before my senior year.
