I will be giving away an iPad 3 Thursday to someone in the forum. Here are the details:

    Who: 1 Randomly-selected winner.

You don’t have to be a current candidate to enter – Alums are welcome too!

The selection will be recorded through a screencast.

Note – the winner will be double-checked to make sure they don’t have more than one forum account posting in the giveaway thread, so no shenanigans.

What: iPad 3 – $499 model (winner will have the option to pay for any upgrades/features they want added)

Why: iPads are awesome (I have an iPad 2 … hope I win!) 😉

    How:

    1. “Like” another71 on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/another71)

    2. In this thread, post a CPA Exam or Accounting Career tip (or both) that you think would benefit a College Senior or recent graduate. If you work for a Big 4 or Regional Accounting Firm, interview tips or anything making the process easier would be great.

    That’s it … Good Luck!

    ***

    New Prizes Added!

    – 5 Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University Memberships (Online)

    – 5 Complete NINJA Audios

    Exam tip:

NEVER take time off once you pass 1, 2, or even 3 sections. 18 months seems like plenty of time, but it goes fast, especially if you struggle with the remaining exam(s).

I passed BEC and AUD on my first try within 6 weeks of each other. I took REG and FAR every few months and finally passed REG after 4 tries. My window ran out and I lost BEC and AUD.

I had 3 exams passed and now I only have one passing credit. I will be taking my 14th exam section in a week. Always be encouraged, no matter what your path to the CPA looks like! NEVER GIVE UP.

    B - 78 (lost credit 11/30/11), 73, 75 PASSED!
    A - 75 (lost credit 1/14/12), 72, 75 PASSED!
    R - 70, 69, 71, 77 PASSED!
    F - 56, 49, 64, 63, 71, 68, 64, 69, 77 PASSED!

Tip: Try to take FAR right after college, it has the most familiar material from your accounting classes in college. Not to mention, it is one of the more difficult ones so you can get it out of the way first. Like everyone says, do as many MCQs as you can and take notes while you're doing these. Try to take note how you got to your answer and why you got the answer right/wrong, it really helps! I have taken Becker Live classes and while they were helpful, I believe the lecture CDs are more than sufficient to help get your through the Becker material. I don't believe the live classes helped that much; I'd rather use that time to study/go through the lecture CDs instead.

Study study study. Do as many different multiple choice questions as possible, and use your classmates to test the depth and breadth of your knowledge. REST the evening before your exam. But most of all, manage your time and pass while you are in school so that when you start your new job, that is one less item to distract you from being at your best!

A CPA exam tip: zone out for two weeks and just practice the MCQs.

Do as many MCQ questions and know why you got the question wrong as opposed to just reading the books. Practice a lot!

i would suggest taking the CPA exam right after college. i waited 7 years or so, and now i am married and have a bunch of other responsibilities that weren't there when i graduated college. it would've been much easier when i was still single & living at home and had no job.

and definitely take one of the review courses – i hear that becker is the best but I'm sure they all have their strengths. and take advantage of everything the NINJA has to offer

    FAR - 1/26/2012 - PASSED (78, but Lost credit), re-do 11/27/2013 - PASSED (87)!
    AUD - EPIC FAIL, 71, 69; 68; 5/25/2013 - PASSED (85)!
    REG - 10/1/2012 - 72; 7/1/2013 - 73 UGH, 10/1/2013 - PASSED (85)!
    BEC - 2/28/2013 - PASSED (82)!
    Licensed CPA!

Used Becker self-study materials (just this for FAR original & REG #1), WileyTestBank, NINJA notes/audio, and Roger cram course for AUD #5, REG #3 & FAR reboot. CPA!

Don't think of the exam as 1 huge battle to furthering your career. This mentality can easily overwhelm you and frustrate you. Rather, think of it as 4 smaller hurdles and approach each test individually. Focus on one section before tackling another. Also, be sure to keep in mind that one set of review material may not be the best choice for you for all 4 sections. Try mixing up your review materials to ensure you aren't just memorizing one particular set of review questions and ensure that you can actually apply the material.

    BEC - PASS
    REG - PASS
    AUD - PASS
    FAR - PASS

    ELL! ELL!

You will know what this means if you frequent this site.

I did it on my first exam and I passed.

I slacked on my second and did not. Although I also switched study materials trying to save money.

Research the different exam prep courses to find the one that matches your learning style.

And I wish I had taken the exams right out of college as well when everything was fresh.

    Good luck !

    AZ
    AUD - 10/20/2011 - 77
    BEC - 7/28/2012 - 79

    REG - 4/18/2013 - 75 (3rd time's a charm!)

Get an internship. It is hard, because you get more money waiting tables (in most cases); but in the long run internship will pay off. I hate to see really smart kids from my class still looking for jobs because they did not complete internships while at school.

    FAR
    AUD 02/10/14 passed
    BEC
    REG

Put the effort into it – it is a passable test but you have to earn it! Don't give up no matter how hard it gets or how you feel! Find a great CPA review course that fits you – I use Roger CPA Review and love it – very moviating and that is what I need.
