I will be giving away an iPad 3 Thursday to someone in the forum. Here are the details:

    Who: 1 Randomly-selected winner.

You don’t have to be a current candidate to enter – Alums are welcome too!

The selection will be recorded through a screencast.

Note – the winner will be double-checked to make sure they don’t have more than one forum account posting in the giveaway thread, so no shenanigans.

What: iPad 3 – $499 model (winner will have the option to pay for any upgrades/features they want added)

Why: iPads are awesome (I have an iPad 2 … hope I win!) 😉

    How:

    1. “Like” another71 on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/another71)

    2. In this thread, post a CPA Exam or Accounting Career tip (or both) that you think would benefit a College Senior or recent graduate. If you work for a Big 4 or Regional Accounting Firm, interview tips or anything making the process easier would be great.

    That’s it … Good Luck!

    ***

    New Prizes Added!

    – 5 Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University Memberships (Online)

    – 5 Complete NINJA Audios

    – 5 Complete NINJA Notes

    – 1 30 Minute Muay Thai training session at Del Mar Beach (CA) in September (you have to get to Del Mar though) 🙂

Big Four Tip: Go to your campus career fairs ahead of time if possible. If you know that you're going to want an interview with EY next year, make sure you go out of your way to introduce yourself to the recruiter a year in advance. You'll definitely stick out when you request an interview during your recruiting season.

Tip – Take REG and FAR during the summer and leave the other 2 for the fall when it gets busier. Spend the time studying, it is the only way to pretty much guarantee success.

    Exam tip:

Passed FAR on the first try.

I only used the Wiley Text and Wiley Test Bank. Read through the text and do all the MQ's and you should be well prepared. Also, another71 forums are a huge help not just in getting question you had on the exam answered, but the support of the another71 community.

    Good Luck!!!

    FAR - 81
    AUD - 86
    REG - 74, Feb/2013
    BEC - 79

Tip-Read every single page of your review book not once, but multiple times. Work the MCQs multiple times as well. Get the Ninja Notes and read them multiple times. Do everything multiple times.. 🙂

tip for applying/interviewing for jobs: Be yourself. Try to get to know the people and culture at the firm as best as you can. You are going to end up spending more time with these people than anyone else in your life, so making sure you really enjoy being around them will be the difference of you loving/hating your job.

Exam tip..don't get discouraged if your having trouble with a section or topic. Just go slow and take the material piece by piece.

Senors- finish before you start to work. Busy season killed me and my FAR score.

    BEC- 78

    AUD- 76

    REG- 79

Don't over study of give your self too much time!!! 2 tests a cycle ensures enough pressure to ensure the game winning shot in the 4th quarter….

Take the exam as soon as you can. The longer you wait, the busier you'll be and the less time you'll have to dedicate to the exam.

Get the exam out of the way as soon as possible! Sacrifice your social life for a while and put the time in.

No matter how prepared you are, an extra couple minutes of review right before the exam (which I did not do before my last exam) can be the difference between a 74 and 75… Every extra minute, extra flashcard, extra multiple choice question helps.

And when you're feeling discouraged…watch this video!

Interview Tips: Close your interview session by asking real-ly good questions. That will make you stand out and memorable from the interviewer's perspective. Make sure to throw some good stories into the conversation – they will remember you!

Study tip- For me the hardest thing to do has been to find a balance between studying and the rest of my life. I have found that utilizing a study plan (I use the one offered by Another71) has been extremely beneficial. If I complete all of the tasks (Read chapters, finish sections of question, re-write study notes etc.) then I reward myself with doing something fun! The planner really helps me track my progress and stay on task and I would recommend it for everyone.

I found an MBA program through Lakeland College in WI that has CPA review classes as part of their masters curriculum. (They use Becker which was included in the cost of the class) I also use the NINJA to help as a different point of view on the topics.

Set a schedule for yourself, and stick to it. Set daily goals and if you don't complete them, take away something from yourself (like that TV show you were going to watch, or Friday night with your friends). Do as many MCQ as possible, and don't give up!!!

Exam study tip: study in a way that makes you able to teach the material to someone else. This worked very well for REG, my nemesis! If you cant explain it to someone, you probably dont understand it!
