    I will be giving away an iPad 3 Thursday to someone in the forum. Here are the details:

    Who: 1 Randomly-selected winner.

    You don’t have to be a current candidate to enter – Alums are welcome too!

    The selection will be recorded through a screencast.

    Note – the winner will be double-checked to make sure they don’t have more than one forum account posting in the giveaway thread, so no shenanigans.

    What: iPad 3 – $499 model (winner will have the option to pay for any upgrades/features they want added)

    Why: iPads are awesome (I have an iPad 2 … hope I win!) 😉

    How:

    1. “Like” another71 on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/another71)

    2. In this thread, post a CPA Exam or Accounting Career tip (or both) that you think would benefit a College Senior or recent graduate. If you work for a Big 4 or Regional Accounting Firm, interview tips or anything making the process easier would be great.

    That’s it … Good Luck!

    ***

    New Prizes Added!

    – 5 Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University Memberships (Online)

    – 5 Complete NINJA Audios

    – 5 Complete NINJA Notes

    – 1 30 Minute Muay Thai training session at Del Mar Beach (CA) in September (you have to get to Del Mar though) 🙂

    Exam Tip- Don't give up! You can do it! I preferred Becker to Roger for my studying. Also do as many MCQ as you can- this can save you precious time for your simulations when you know the answer right away.

    Interview tip- the worst they can say is no! Be yourself and make sure it's a good fit for the lifestyle you see yourself having. For example I'm in tax and have long hours some parts of the year- that means I can't take vacation during certain months so if you ALWAYS go on vacation in March- think again!

    Good luck to everyone! Sometimes it's the journey that is more important.

    Persistance is key when trying to pass the CPA exam. You have to look at it like a short tem sacrifice that will pay dividends years from now. I’ve been out of school for 15 years and had this on my bucket list since then. My year of studying has already paid for itself in opportunities that I wouldn’t had 5 years ago.

    Exam Tip 1: MCQs, MCQs, MCQs

    Exam Tip 2: JEs. I really think that focusing on JEs helped me pass FAR. They helped me better understand the material and prepare me for the SIMS.

    Exam Tip 3: As someone who is married with a full-time job and a toddler, don't be afraid to ask for help. I have such a loving and supportive family who swooped in and helped take care of my son when I was drowning in FAR. I could not have pulled this off without them.

    Lastly: Get NINJA notes. They are a great resource for review and they helped drive the key points home.

    FAR 05/12/12 76
    AUD 07/14/12 58 10/27/12
    BEC 08/25/12 80
    REG Q1 2013

    Some advice that worked for me:

    1) I own the becker's flashcards but reading them doesn't do anything for me. So I retype each chapter of flashcards once i've finished the mcq and lectures for that chapter, it's a great review, puts everything in order and helps me to see the big picture, and remember the little details. Then I re-read all my typed notes a bunch of times the week before the exam.

    2) even while you're studying, you need to leave yourself time to do some things you enjoy, treat yourself to an ice cream, exercise, play some tennis, get out a little, it helps me to focus more when i have something fun to look forward to.

    3) make lots of short term goals- meeting them gives you motivation to keep going!

    4) Don't let failure get you down! it's just temporary!

    GOOD LUCK!

    My job seeking advice is to start early and get an internship and have as many as humanely possible.

    My test taking advice is study hard, and yes the test is hard but it is not as impossible as everyone makes it sound.

    FAR= 93
    AUD= May 29
    REG= July 9
    BEC= August 20

    Career and CPA tip: Get the test out the way as quickly as you can. Your responsiblities will grow with the organization. This may make it difficult to get in adequate study time. Make sure you stay organized and answer as many MCQ as possible.

    Exam Tip 1: Keep at it. This may seem simple but you've already covered most of the material in your accounting classes. It is a huge amount of material to review (FAR) but you can do it!

    Exam Tip 2: Use a study planner and stick to it. This is one on this web page and I've found the ELL system to be very effective with working full time and having young children.

    Exam Tip 3: This one is personal preference so some may disagree, but take FAR first. Get the beast out of the way!

    F -7/11/2012 (77)
    A - 8/30/2012 (68), 10/4/2012 (78)
    R - 11/21/2012 (84)
    B - 01/05/2013 (85)

    BEC (8/27/11) 81
