I'm not sure how much this will help because my interview for an internal audit position was probably a bit out of the ordinary. I was working in one dept. and applied for the IA position with my manager's permission. However, my friend in IA was the one who encouraged me to apply for the open position. Even though I had no IA experience, she felt that I was under-utilized in my current position and knew she could train me. She started at EY and came into her IA position without any IA experience either – although at least she had public accounting experience. My role would've been focused on SOX Compliance so I made sure to know as much as I could about SOX 404 (this included reading the actual rule). I interviewed with the director of IA and he didn't ask me too much about SOX because he knew that I did not have experience with it. My friend had basically vouched for me and told the director I'd easily be able to learn it and she was more than willing to train me. We ended up just discussing my background. It was very much a behavioral interview where the director just wanted to see if he could put up with me on a daily basis. He did ask me if I knew what SOX 404 was and I was easily able to answer him because of the reading I had done in preparation for the interview.

That being said, I wouldn't take your interview lightly. I wouldn't bank on the fact that your boss is willing to train you if (s)he is looking for an experienced hire. Again – I had the luxury of having someone who was good at her job vouch for me. I hope this helps!
