Ok, I need your advice. I got a call yesterday and have an interview scheduled for Friday with a new “start-up” firm. But when I research this firm, the only thing that really comes up is a lawsuit. The two partners of this new firm were partners at a big regional firm. They told the firm in July they were leaving to start their own firm after signing a non-compete agreement. The big firm sued them and got a 10 day restraining order, but the day the restraining order expired, is the day the two partners left the big firm and two days later, started their own firm. In this same article, the two partners say that paying the retribution for taking the big firms clients is just a part of doing business.

So my question is, should I even waste my time and go on this interview? I have to drive 3 hours one way to get there, which means also taking a half day off of work. My current job is in industry and I really want to be in public, but stealing clients is something I’d rather not be involved in again. My current company has been involved with it and lawsuits since before I started with this company.

Any advice you guys can give me would be great! Thanks!

If you really want to be in public I would go to the interview. You can't really lose out by at least interviewing them. Having said that, I would ABSOLUTELY bring up the lawsuit in the interview if they don't first. Tell them that it's a concern of yours and see what they have to say about it.
