I second working with a recruiter, especially if you're targeting a large metropolitan market. Not only can a recruiter get your resume in the right hands (as opposed to lost in the endless void that is HR), but a recruiter can also do things like review your resume or set up a mock interview to give you honest feedback about opportunities for improvement.

@CPA2Bee: I have worked with RoberHalf and KForce but they are seem not to have much opportunities in public accounting field. All jobs they called me were temporary. I don't know any recruiters which are specializing in public accounting job, so I searched CPA firms in OC and called them if they had any openings. I also sent email to mid-tier firms within the area to ask for the opportunities but no hope. you said you knew a lot of open opportunities out there, would you able to give me the recruiter contact persons in public accounting field so that I could email them?

I know public accounting firms are hiring. But it's pretty difficult to reach out to the bigger ones. So I would start small if I were you. I literally got 2 offers by just emailing them through their website.

2 job offers from 2 different public accounting firms, tax and audit. ALL those came from JUST googling CPA firms in OC and applying through their website. I even had another offer from LA, but that's way too far…. It is POSSIBLE. I actually got asked for interviews at other places too, even from my recruiters too. It is a LOT of work. The whole process took some months. But I am always advocate of looking for a job when you're already in one, they give you interviews easier that way.

But there's also a lot of other variables that go with it, depending on that firm and their needs. How you sell yourself matters as well. I know that I had one friend who went in for an internship, but they gave her a full-time offer.

I've already answered in this thread though, it is not easy to find a public accounting position in OC. It may be easy to find a private accounting role.

CPA2BEE will you please forward my resume? I'm literally just sitting here for almost a month without a job.
(are you located in California by the way?)
If so, let me have your email address. Thanks!

I'm happy to help you guys but I'm not going to post my email address to the forum. I'm not sure how, or even if, we can do it privately on here either. If you can find a way to send me your info, I'm happy to send the recruiters your way.
