In need of serious advice…

I was contacted by a small accounting firm that specializes in not for profit and governmental auditing. I aced the phone interview on 4/20 and was told i would know early the next week whether or not the hiring manager would want to interview me. After not hearing anything by Wednesday, I wrote it off and just kept going on with my search. On Friday 4/28 around 2:30 i received a phone call asking if i would like to interview. I said yes and asked when because i would have to take time off from my current job since this company is 3 hours away. The HR woman i spoke with (which is NOT the same one who phone interviewed me) said she would call me back by the end of the day. At 5:00pm she said the interview would be Wednesday 5/3 at 1pm. I accepted and she said she would email me a confirmation. I never received a confirmation and around 1pm yesterday 5/1 I called her to explain that I had not gotten a confirmation and wanted to make sure that there was nothing important in that email. She stated that they company had been hacked over the weekend and that Wednesday was not a good day to be interviewed. I explained to her that I need a set date and time since I have to take off of work in order to be interviewed. She said she would get back to me by the end of the day. At 5pm she left me a voicemail stating that the interview would be tentatively scheduled for Friday and that she would get back to me today 5/2 by late morning to finalize it. Its now almost 2pm and i have heard nothing.

Is this just a waste of my time? She doesn’t seem competent enough to do her job. I really do not want to drive 3+ hours (its construction season in PA) for there not even to be an interview.

Also, I question that if i did not reach out to her in regards to not receiving the confirmation email, would she have even let me know that Wednesday was not a good day?

This makes me think this company may not be a great place to work.

I would appreciate any input. Thanks!!

are you happy with your current job? If so I would write this new opportunity off as a not-so-good-opportunity. If you are hating your current job and need to get out then different story….

I do need to get a new job and was contacted by another firm for a phone interview. So hopefully the other firm works out. But I just want to make sure I'm not being to harsh on the company. I had a bad experience with an audit firm. They were not doing ethical things. So I left after 3 months. I just feel that if it is so hard for them to schedule and interview for me, how would working there be?

@AshleyL. Congrats on the opportunity. You might want to edit out the firm's name on this public forum.

@mtaylo24 I did. Thank you. I didn't think about that before I wrote it.

I'd say them being hacked supposedly is reason enough to move on.

Good point @MLA11692. So how do I professionally tell them that I'm not interested? I do not want to give myself a bad reputation.

Its rare anybody gets a reputation for stopping the interview process but I suppose it can happen.

Just thank them for their time and consideration and let them know at this time you've chosen to pursue other opportunites.
