    Hi! I work for a big 4 company and just passed my last CPA exam. I’ve been working 2 months and want to quit. My bonus should be paid by my next payment cycle. If I quit the day after the cycle, can my firm take any of it back? Please help!!!

    I actually was just on the phone with my buddy last night who worked at a Big 4 for a while and they DID take his CPA bonus back. He got the bonus then quit a few months later. He told me “apparently there is a disclaimer that I did not read,” which states you need to be there at least two years after the bonus. Although he did say his twin brother quit after 8 months-1 year after the bonus and they did not take it back. I'm trying to get into EY in Boston at the moment!

    Yikes, only worked two months and you already want to quit? I think it took me at least six months to really hate working in public accounting. But hey, at least you were quick to realize that this isn't what you want to be doing right now. Come to the dark side (corporate/private accounting). We have cookies. 🙂

    I have a question for you…. Did you pass ALL 4 of the exams while working there to get the bonus?! Or can you pass your last 1 or 2 exams while working there and still get the bonus??

    I passed 3 over the summer after I graduated then passed the last during the first month of work. I should be getting the bonus and reimbursed for expenses.

    You should check your company policy. The company I work for (not a Big 4) requires that I stay with them for 2 years after getting certified. If I quit before then, I have to pay back all CPA fees & review materials on a pro rata basis. Since my bonus is tied into my overall performance review as well as my personal objective to pass the CPA, they won't take that away though.

    Peanut are you near Boston? It can't be that you live close to me and I didn't realize it! We'll have to plan an A71 reunion dinner since I know there are a few more nearby (I think noscorestodisplay is local too)

    I'm in Manchester it's about a 40 minute drive to Boston! There is a bus next to my house that drives right into Boston so I would commute. We should definitely do a reunion dinner! I feel like I'm just starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel with all of this..

    @tliedt1

    I wish I can take your place. For some reason working for Big 4 is still part of my check-list 🙂

    I bet many ppl will want your place, too. Esp with the current economy.

    At my B4 firm I'm pretty sure you have to work there a year after passing the CPA if you want to keep the money.

    It only took me a few days to realize that auditing sucked. But I'm gonna stick it out for another year since I wanna get my type A signed off.
