So I’ve recently realized this might be a problem when trying to get into an accounting position. I’m really worried that this will be my downfall when trying to get ANY position in accounting.

Any of you successfully get into an accounting position with a Finance degree?

I have seen many job discriptions that require either finance or accounting. Some positions will however only want accounting. But you should bee ok.

you are taking CPA exams. Once you pass all CPA exams, then it will do the magic to get you an accounting-related job.

Currently:
CPA - Class of 2013
ALMI (Associate, Life Management Institute)
CISA - Passed in 2011, Certified in 2014

ASA (Associate of Society of Actuaries) - EXAM P (O), EXAM FM (O), EXAM MFE (X), EXAM MLC (X), EXAM C (X)

Thanks Kay! It's another motivator now because I realized how much I really like financial accounting work; even though my FAR scores don't show it. :-/.

I think you'll be fine once you have your CPA. I did my undergrad in Finance and had the same difficulty in getting Accounting related opportunities so I went for my masters in Accounting and opportunities started presented themselves. Keep expressing your desire for the field and I think you're doing a great job of that by getting the CPA. Best of luck 🙂

I work in an accounting department in a very large financial institution. One of my co-workers who was hired on at the same time as me has a Finance degree and no accounting experience, however she did have some experience working in another financial institution doing something completely different.
