Hi guys and congrats to all who passed the exam.

I had interview with one of the accounting firms and got rejected yesterday.

I killed myself for the interview, and worked really really hard.

It really really hurts me a lot even though it had been almost a day since I heard the news, and I am so disappointed and upset about this. I don’t know how to handle this situation…

Guys I would really appreciate a lot if you can give me an advice on how I can handle this situation and share experiences on how you guys went through it. Thanks!

acamp: Hahaha, well, to be honest, partially it was me 😛

    1. I was still enrolled in my evening MBA classes, so NOW I know they already knew I wouldn't be available to work 70 hrs…..oh well, it was stupid of me, no one told me, and it was hard to hide since I had my MSA and MBA classes on the same transcript….

    2. I wasn't very well prepared for any of these interviews, to be honest…..It was naive of me to assume that my MSA degree + almost perfect GPA would be more than enough for an ENTRY level position! Wrong again!

So, yeah….after I had only ONE chance left with BOE, I did everything I could to get the job and I got it! 🙂

I've only been rejected from one job that I applied for. Their reason for not hiring me was that I was “too encumbered”. Whatever that means. Anyway, I went to work for a CPA and now I own 1/2 of the firm. The person they hired that was obviously “not encumbered” was laid off 1 month after she started because the company was bought out by someone else. I dodged a bullet there! Maybe you did too!

But honestly, I think they were right about not hiring me, because I think I was overqualified for those positions…. Not to say I didn't want to work for Big 4 or Moss Adams….but oh well, 2.5 years later I am pretty much at the same spot as some of my classmates….or better 😛 depends on priorities…..

You guys are so awesome. People say that its better off that I didn't get the job, and I definitely agree with them… But I am really upset at this point that there is no one who are willing to give me any opportunities. Some of my classmates were ‘super lucky' when finding their jobs, while some were really smart and amazing but could not land any jobs.. At this point, I really think that the life is not fair…

At the end of the day, the person hiring decides whether they like you or not…..despite your skills, etc. And if they don't like you enough to hire you, then you are definitely better off not working with them! 🙂

Funny story – 1.5 years ago I was changing jobs….from one state agency to another – it was my 3rd or 4th interview that year and I was so discouraged I seriously didn't care what the outcome will be…..I did my best – and got the job! Maybe not caring too much is the key – who knows….or like the old saying goes – “everything happens for a reason” – cliche but has been proved to be right way too many times! 🙂

I don't know.. I am really seriously wondering if I am dislikable person at this point… You know that there are people who are not likable, just because of no reason, and there are people who are very likable. What should I do??
